Hello! I’m a clinical social worker who has worked in a variety of mental health settings – I believe that therapy is a space where someone can explore questions about themselves. I enjoy creating a warm environment where individuals can explore these questions and hopefully experience growth in their lives. I aim to affirm that my clients are the experts in their therapy journey and that I aim to work with that intention in a collaborative effort. In my style I try to provide warmth and empathy to encourage free exploration of thoughts and emotions, no matter which walk of life you may come from. I blend by also providing honest feedback with the intention of giving genuine reflection and developing a solid foundation to develop coping skills from. In terms of my modalities I pull from both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approaches. If you would so choose, I look forward to working with you.

Amy Mayer, PMHNP
Is your child experiencing mental health symptoms that are interfering with their life? Are these symptoms impeding their education or social development? Perhaps your child is on too many medications and you are questioning if all of it is necessary? Maybe I can help.
I’m Amy Mayer, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner that has been working with children and adolescents both outpatient and inpatient for 15 years. I have also been a certified meditation instructor, and I know from research and experience that meditation is an amazing tool in helping with mental health.
If therapy and previous attempts at life changes and modifications have not been useful, it would be my pleasure to meet with you and your child and listen to your concerns, discuss previous treatment plans, and offer other potential avenues of care. If medications appear appropriate, I can provide education on what options are available and together, we can decide what the next step is. I pride myself on my ability to listen to my patients and their families, monitor medication effects, and ask pertinent questions to determine the problems and successes with each medication trial. I am a careful prescriber and feel that medications need to be changed slowly and carefully with close observation.
I look forward to being a part of your family’s care team. Your child deserves to enjoy their youth to their fullest!

Amy Schiminske, LMHC
With over three years of experience in the mental health field, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals as they navigate various life stressors and mental health concerns. My passion lies in working with adolescents, teens, and adults, emphasizing the collaborative nature of therapy. I believe that each person is the expert in their own life, and my role is to walk alongside you in uncovering patterns you may not be aware of, releasing trapped emotions that may have been internalized or suppressed, and working toward improving your confidence in facing life’s challenges. While personal growth can sometimes feel uncomfortable, I firmly believe that the process doesn’t have to be bleak.
I strive to incorporate levity into our sessions, creating a nonjudgmental and affirming space where you can explore yourself to the fullest extent. I embrace diversity and provide a safe environment for all belief systems, including the LGBTQI+ community. If you’ve tried talk therapy and are seeking a different approach, I am fully trained in EMDR and would be honored to work with you in this method. Together, we can create a therapeutic experience that is both challenging and rewarding, ultimately empowering you to embrace life with renewed strength and resilience. So come explore with me the age old question….”and how do you feel about that?”
She/Her
Andrea Keefe, LCSW
I am a licensed clinical social worker who is passionate about helping others thrive! Seeing the strengths in all my clients comes naturally to me – I believe that having the space to reflect and process our circumstances, thoughts, and feelings with a consistent empathic person is incredibly healing. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based interventions though conversation, online sharing, and custom “homework”. I often send and encourage helpful and relevant articles, videos, and apps to help you untangle whatever is holding you back.
My personal and professional background has filled me with many insights, tools, and resources to share. I am a Syracuse University graduate who’s interned as a rural school social worker and has done clinical work with inner city students. I’ve spent many years working hands on with youth with emotional and behavioral problems in school and residential settings. These experiences enhanced my understanding of family dynamics, culture, and how mental health issues present in day-to-day life.
In my work with individuals, I tend to focus on mindfulness, restructuring limiting thoughts and beliefs, mind body connection, nervous system regulation, inner child work, setting loving boundaries, physical /mental/emotional/ spiritual self-care, and encouraging time with the things that bring joy. In my work with couples, I focus on healthy communication and strengthening connections.
I am kind, upbeat, and a little goofy! My goal for each session is to leave you feeling heard and empowered with more clarity than you came with.

Christa Speach, LMHC, CASAC, PSP
Hi! I’m Christa – Therapist, Chronic Illness Warrior, Grief Navigator, Substance Abuse Counselor and Advocate for the Captivatingly Unconventional.
I believe in the power of resilience, self-compassion, and embracing every quirk that makes us who we are. As a therapist at Psychiatry Services of NY, with over 20+ years’ experience, I specialize in working with individuals managing chronic illness, navigating the complexities of grief, and tackling the challenges related to substance use. With credentialing in substance abuse counseling and a lived understanding of chronic illness and grief, my work is rooted in authenticity, warmth, and the belief that healing isn’t about “fixing” – it’s about discovering new ways to live fully with what we have available to us.
Grief is messy. Chronic illness is unpredictable. Life? Well, life is weird – and that’s what makes it interesting. My approach is all about helping people rewrite the narratives that no longer serve them, find strength in unexpected places, and – when necessary – laugh in the face of adversity. Therapy doesn’t have to be stiff or clinical. Sometimes healing looks like deep conversations, sometimes it involves humor, sometimes it looks like small victories and sometimes it looks like learning to embrace the wonderfully strange parts of ourselves.
When not in session, you’ll find me reading, watching TV & movies, attending musicals in NYC, collecting Funko Pops, attending Barry Manilow concerts, hanging out with friends & family and attending to my cats’ every demand!

I am excited to be joining the PHC team this summer, and have been working as a therapist for over 3 years prior. What I love most about my job is that it allows me to assist people in achieving their goals and overcoming their struggles. I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in exploring and improving their relationship with themselves, employ a wide variety of therapeutic modalities, and am person-centered in my style. I believe that while therapists are an expert in mental health, every patient is an expert on the person they are, and therapy is a collaborative effort between these two experts to achieve the goals outlined by the client.
She/Her
Darcey Simmons, LCSWR, CASAC
I am an LCSWR focused on providing care to individuals aged 12+, families and couples. I also hold certifications as a CASAC (Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) through the NYS Office of Addiction and Substance Abuse Services and as a CST (Certified Sex Therapist) through the American Association of Sexual Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). My patients, past and present, have often described our work together as creative and engaging – I appreciate working with folxs who have tried therapy in the past but did not achieve the outcomes they desired. I strongly value the therapeutic process with a desire for each person to become the “best, most powerful, healthiest version of themselves”. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, am sex positive and kink affirmative, embrace body positivity and lifestyle diversities including open relationships/ENM (Ethical Non-Monogamy). Additionally at PSNY I serve as the Associate Clinical Director – providing support to clinicians and patients to ensure ongoing optimum care.
I am currently training my second therapy dog and love spending time competing in sports with both of my labs. I spend as much time outdoors as possible and have interests ranging from fishing to volleyball to hiking and being at the beach!

Eftekhar (Effie) Miri, Ph. D. , LMHC
I am a Ph. D. psychologist and NY Mental Health licensed. I lived in New York City and worked as a faculty member, teaching psychology courses at a few universities at the beginning of my career. Then, I have been practicing psychological evaluations and psychotherapy with people of different ages and from different cultural and bilingual background trying to increase their knowledge of their potentials. I am also an author writing in psychology which keeps me in depth therapeutic relationships with my clients. My second book is called “Who is Controlling Your Life: The Evolution of Consciousness,” written in many short chapters. This book is an attempt to increase your consciousness about you, about your internal resources as if a genius doctor lives within you. It is about the abundance of Universal energy working within you, the knowledge of which brings the feelings of gratitude and happiness. I have also tried to increase your knowledge about the external resources that control your life. The goal is for you to learn to be an engineer to alleviate their impacts on your lives. There are many updated references and podcasts provided on each chapter for those desiring to enhance their information in that area. I always owe my knowledge to my co-therapist, “you,” to dig into learning and to resolve the problems.

I have been working in the field for about 20 years now, and have been at PHC for about 10 of those years. I started out in social work then eventually went back to get my doctorate. I proudly wear both hats. while we sometimes talk about difficult things, I don’t believe therapy has to be painful process so I try to be casual and easy-going. I believe in making the world a better place, one person at a time. I tend to focus on irrational thoughts, which we all have, and challenging those thoughts. I tend to focus on the positive, when things go well and how to maintain that into the future. You will almost never see me without a hat on.

I have been a clinician for nearly 15 years. I have a deep appreciation for the growth process and witnessing client self-discovery and self-mastery. I enjoy my role in a client’s journey, which may include equipping them with skills to overcome challenges or reflecting their strengths back to them.
Clients have commented on my ability to be authentically warm while gently challenging. It is also important for me to understand a client in their full context, which makes me genuinely curious about their daily lived experiences. This is also a skill that I bring to psychological assessment. My name is Matt, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. Committed to helping people cultivate their strengths in the face of complex challenges, I enjoy walking with patients on their journeys toward growth and creating shared curiosity, exploration, and thoughtfulness about themselves, others, and the world. I have worked with patients with anxiety disorders, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, struggles with self-harm, and severe and persistent mental illnesses, among others. Certified in Reconsolidaton of Traumatic Memories (RTM), I specialize in working with patients seeking to reduce the frequency and emotional intensity of symptoms of trauma (e.g., flashbacks, nightmares). Broadly, my approach is existential-phenomenological, which means I take into account patients’ unique experiences of their existence in order to increase their capacities for freedom and choice within their particular situations, to help explore and formulate their identities, and to find meaning in their day-to-day participation in life. Outside of my therapeutic work, I like to spend time with my wife and four kids, read interesting books, listen to classic music, and attempt to write a bizarre dystopian novel. My family was grown through adoption, and I have a particular interest in working with individuals from families who similarly fostered or adopted.

Zig Ziglar once said “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” If you have decided that beginning therapy is the start of your journey to greatness, it would be my privilege to walk beside you as you navigate those first steps. As a clinical social worker for over 25 years, I’ve worn many hats as I’ve either worked or interned in the school setting, a residential treatment facility, mental health clinic, Article 16 clinic, and the VA (Buffalo, NY). Psychiatry Services of New York has been a great fit as my clients show me daily that hard work, perseverance, and resiliency can be agents of change given the proper therapeutic tools.
As a generalist favoring a person-centered, strengths-based, eclectic approach, it is important that my clients feel safe, supported, respected, and heard. Working with many age groups has been a gift that provides a broad spectrum of life experiences that both challenge and motivate me to continue to learn, grow, and stay current so that my clients are receiving the best care I can provide. Helping people reach their goals and improve their quality of life is exciting, and I’m blessed to be even a small part of that journey.
On a personal note, my husband and I are proud parents of three grown children (and “cat parents” to one misunderstood Tortoiseshell diva). I love to read, travel, appreciate good coffee and sunny days, am known to binge-watch psychological thrillers, and would never turn down any form of chocolate.

Sara Higgins, LCSW
I’ve been a therapist since 2013 and I have worked in schools, private clinics, prisons, and residential programs. I’ve worked with both adults and children (middle school aged and up); currently I am only working with adults and teens age 13+. I have experience working with a wide variety of concerns including Depression, Anxiety, behavioral concerns, anger management, Personality Disorders, OCD, and Developmental Disabilities but my primary specialty is trauma focused therapy, and I am trained in EMDR.
There can, unfortunately, still be a stigma attached to mental health treatment sometimes and I love my job because I get to help break down those stereotypes and guide people down paths they may never have even known to consider before. I get to be with people as the explore their most authentic selves and help them to make meaning of their life experiences. I love that every experience, every session, and every client is unique- none of us are the same on a day-to-day basis and it’s that change, that growth, that introspection, that fuels the therapeutic relationship. I try to create the safest space possible so that clients are free to be honest and vulnerable and know that I view what they choose to share with me as delicate, valuable, and an honor to hold.
Outside my professional life I spend time with my children and my family, I absorb as much of the arts (visual, performance, dance, drama, etc) as I possibly can, I read- avidly, I learn new things, and I cuddle my cat.

After completing her graduate degree at The University at Albany in 2012, she began her career as an intensive case manager for adults living with chronic and severe mental illness. This work solidified her desire and commitment to supporting others to heal through life’s adversities and make meaningful changes that serve to reduce suffering and create an enhanced sense of purpose and contentment. Sarah has spent the last 6 years of her career working as a clinician in an outpatient mental health setting, treating adults who experience a variety of difficulties to include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, psychosis, trauma, personality disorders, addiction, grief and loss, life stress, interpersonal conflict, and chronic medical issues. After becoming a mother in 2021, she discovered a new passion and skill set for supporting others through the overwhelming joys and challenges associated with pregnancy, post-partum, and the life changing transition to parenthood. Her style of therapy lends well to CBT, DBT, and mindfulness based treatment interventions. She uses a person-centered approach that focuses on identifying and nourishing each individual’s unique abilities, strengths, and resiliencies. Sarah understands that we all go through seasons of life that can be difficult, and sometimes debilitatingly stressful. She acknowledges the courage it takes to reach out for support, and strives to create a safe, nurturing space that allows for true vulnerability, acceptance, and personal growth.

Hi! My name is Shayne. I’ve been a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) since 2017. I also hold special certifications as an Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and as a Grief Informed Professional (CGIP). I’m most passionate about supporting those who are navigating and processing loss in all of it’s forms – from the death of a loved one to the everyday changes that alter our lives. I love this work because I get to sit alongside people during these times of transition and empower them as they move forward into their next chapter. My therapeutic approach is solution-focused and strengths based, which means we’ll identify tangible steps forward while also shining light on the resilience already within you. I tend to keep conversations down-to-earn and will bring in creative or expressive tools when it feels helpful to healing and self-discovery.
