Amy Schiminske, LMHC

With over three years of experience in the mental health field, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals as they navigate various life stressors and mental health concerns. My passion lies in working with adolescents, teens, and adults, emphasizing the collaborative nature of therapy. I believe that each person is the expert in their own life, and my role is to walk alongside you in uncovering patterns you may not be aware of, releasing trapped emotions that may have been internalized or suppressed, and working toward improving your confidence in facing life’s challenges. While personal growth can sometimes feel uncomfortable, I firmly believe that the process doesn’t have to be bleak.

I strive to incorporate levity into our sessions, creating a nonjudgmental and affirming space where you can explore yourself to the fullest extent. I embrace diversity and provide a safe environment for all belief systems, including the LGBTQI+ community. Andrea Keefe, LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker who is passionate about helping others thrive! Seeing the strengths in all my clients comes naturally to me – I believe that having the space to reflect and process our circumstances, thoughts, and feelings with a consistent empathic person is incredibly healing. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based interventions though conversation, online sharing, and custom “homework”. I often send and encourage helpful and relevant articles, videos, and apps to help you untangle whatever is holding you back.

My personal and professional background has filled me with many insights, tools, and resources to share. I am a Syracuse University graduate who’s interned as a rural school social worker and has done clinical work with inner city students. I’ve spent many years working hands on with youth with emotional and behavioral problems in school and residential settings. These experiences enhanced my understanding of family dynamics, culture, and how mental health issues present in day-to-day life.

In my work with individuals, I tend to focus on mindfulness, restructuring limiting thoughts and beliefs, mind body connection, nervous system regulation, inner child work, setting loving boundaries, physical /mental/emotional/ spiritual self-care, and encouraging time with the things that bring joy. In my work with couples, I focus on healthy communication and strengthening connections.

I am kind, upbeat, and a little goofy! My goal for each session is to leave you feeling heard and empowered with more clarity than you came with.

I believe in the power of resilience, self-compassion, and embracing every quirk that makes us who we are. As a therapist at Psychiatry Services of NY, with over 20+ years’ experience, I specialize in working with individuals managing chronic illness, navigating the complexities of grief, and tackling the challenges related to substance use. With credentialing in substance abuse counseling and a lived understanding of chronic illness and grief, my work is rooted in authenticity, warmth, and the belief that healing isn’t about “fixing” – it’s about discovering new ways to live fully with what we have available to us.

Grief is messy. Chronic illness is unpredictable. Life? Well, life is weird – and that’s what makes it interesting. My approach is all about helping people rewrite the narratives that no longer serve them, find strength in unexpected places, and – when necessary – laugh in the face of adversity. Therapy doesn’t have to be stiff or clinical. Sometimes healing looks like deep conversations, sometimes it involves humor, sometimes it looks like small victories and sometimes it looks like learning to embrace the wonderfully strange parts of ourselves.

I have more than 30 years of experience working with a full range of issues such as attachment and bonding, adoption, managing severe mental health symptoms across a lifetime, grief and loss, death and dying, anxiety, depression, ADHD and trauma. I am also pleased to offer EMDR treatment for trauma.

My patients, past and present, have often described our work together as creative and engaging – I appreciate working with folxs who have tried therapy in the past but did not achieve the outcomes they desired. I strongly value the therapeutic process with a desire for each person to become the “best, most powerful, healthiest version of themselves”. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, am sex positive and kink affirmative, embrace body positivity and lifestyle diversities including open relationships/ENM (Ethical Non-Monogamy). Additionally at PSNY I serve as the Associate Clinical Director – providing support to clinicians and patients to ensure ongoing optimum care.

I am currently training my second therapy dog and love spending time competing in sports with both of my labs. I spend as much time outdoors as possible and have interests ranging from fishing to volleyball to hiking and being at the beach!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in New York state who earned a doctoral degree in psychology from Albizu University in Puerto Rico. I provide individual therapy in English and Spanish. Prior to joining PSNY, I worked in a community health center as part of the behavioral health team, getting experience on integrated health care.

Some of the diagnosis I have experience, and I’m interested in working with people are: depression, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD and Autism), and trauma disorders (PTSD, gender violence, and sexual abuse) in a wide range of ages from 17 years old and up. In addition, I like working with the LGBTQIA+ community and the Hispanic community. Other interests include providing support to those experiencing women’s health challenges (pregnancy process, chronic conditions and infertility).

My therapeutic approaches are based on a person-centered humanistic perspective, utilizing therapy modalities like Cognitive behavioral, Acceptance and commitment (ACT), Solution focused and Mindfulness -based interventions (MBSR and MSC) framework. I also integrate art strategies in the therapy process (i.e., writing and music) and/or implement Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approaches based on patient’s needs. As part of the therapy process, I aim to establish goals that resonate with the patient’s priorities.

I have been working in the field for about 20 years now, and have been at PHC for about 10 of those years. I started out in social work then eventually went back to get my doctorate. I proudly wear both hats. while we sometimes talk about difficult things, I don’t believe therapy has to be painful process so I try to be casual and easy-going. I believe in making the world a better place, one person at a time. I tend to focus on irrational thoughts, which we all have, and challenging those thoughts. I tend to focus on the positive, when things go well and how to maintain that into the future. You will almost never see me without a hat on.

Counseling is a form of ministering but specifically goal-directed and not necessarily religious. It’s a clinical profession that requires formal training and licensing but is also, I believe, a spiritual process in its concern with deep personal and philosophical questions, its reckoning with suffering and pain, and its reliance on compassion and human connection to move one towards positive change. Most of all it instills and bolsters hope. My own practice presumes hope is impossible without meaningful connections to others and a sense of purpose in life. I’m concerned with outcomes but believe counseling’s effectiveness lies in the process itself. As a New York State licensed mental health counselor, I strive to be empathetic, open-minded, trustworthy, reliable, and (preferably) likable.

I began counseling professionally in 2013 after completing graduate work at Syracuse University. I interned at the Syracuse VA where I treated veterans diagnosed with PTSD and other severe and persistent mental illnesses. Before starting at PSNY in 2020, I worked for two community mental health clinics (first in Cortland, NY, then in Syracuse, NY) where I treated diverse populations with anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, OCD, personality disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and substance abuse. My clinical approach is a combination of CBT, DBT, psychodynamics, existentialism, and feminism. I’m a heterosexual, cisgender, white American male and eagerly work with people who are any or none of those things. I work with individuals aged 16 and up. When not working I spend time with my wife and son. I also read, take walks, occasionally exercise, and listen to a lot of music.

I’ve been with PSNY since 2021. Prior to that, I spent the majority of my career in healthcare, specializing in oncology and palliative care. I bring extensive experience working with individuals facing serious or chronic illnesses, as well as those navigating grief and loss.

In addition to general counseling, I also offer Christian counseling. I work with adults 18 and over, addressing a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and medical challenges.

As a clinical social worker for over 25 years, I’ve worn many hats as I’ve either worked or interned in the school setting, a residential treatment facility, mental health clinic, Article 16 clinic, and the VA (Buffalo, NY). Psychiatry Services of New York has been a great fit as my clients show me daily that hard work, perseverance, and resiliency can be agents of change given the proper therapeutic tools.

As a generalist favoring a person-centered, strengths-based, eclectic approach, it is important that my clients feel safe, supported, respected, and heard. I grew up in Athens, Greece and graduated from the University of Kentucky where I received my doctoral degree in Psychology. I have been practicing as a psychologist and therapist since 1994.

I work with adults, older adolescents and couples who present a broad range of mental health issues and problems in living. In my approach, I strive to tailor treatment to the specific needs and circumstances of my clients. I pay close attention to the emotional, social, and biological forces that affect living. I also draw upon a wide range of scientific research, knowledge, and experience to help patients better understand themselves and their relationships with others. I work to help patients find effective, practical ways to implement those insights in their daily lives and thus attain symptom relief and increased life satisfaction. I’ve been a therapist since 2013 and I have worked in schools, private clinics, prisons, and residential programs. I’ve worked with both adults and children (middle school aged and up); currently I am only working with adults and teens age 13+. I have experience working with a wide variety of concerns including Depression, Anxiety, behavioral concerns, anger management, Personality Disorders, OCD, and Developmental Disabilities but my primary specialty is trauma focused therapy, and I am trained in EMDR.

There can, unfortunately, still be a stigma attached to mental health treatment sometimes and I love my job because I get to help break down those stereotypes and guide people down paths they may never have even known to consider before. I get to be with people as the explore their most authentic selves and help them to make meaning of their life experiences. I love that every experience, every session, and every client is unique- none of us are the same on a day-to-day basis and it’s that change, that growth, that introspection, that fuels the therapeutic relationship. I try to create the safest space possible so that clients are free to be honest and vulnerable and know that I view what they choose to share with me as delicate, valuable, and an honor to hold.

Outside my professional life I spend time with my children and my family, I absorb as much of the arts (visual, performance, dance, drama, etc) as I possibly can, I read- avidly, I learn new things, and I cuddle my cat.

Sarah is a licensed clinical social worker with 10 years of experience working in the field of mental health in various capacities. After completing her graduate degree at The University at Albany in 2012, she began her career as an intensive case manager for adults living with chronic and severe mental illness. This work solidified her desire and commitment to supporting others to heal through life’s adversities and make meaningful changes that serve to reduce suffering and create an enhanced sense of purpose and contentment. Sarah has spent the last 6 years of her career working as a clinician in an outpatient mental health setting, treating adults who experience a variety of difficulties to include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, psychosis, trauma, personality disorders, addiction, grief and loss, life stress, interpersonal conflict, and chronic medical issues. After becoming a mother in 2021, she discovered a new passion and skill set for supporting others through the overwhelming joys and challenges associated with pregnancy, post-partum, and the life changing transition to parenthood. Her style of therapy lends well to CBT, DBT, and mindfulness based treatment interventions. She uses a person-centered approach that focuses on identifying and nourishing each individual’s unique abilities, strengths, and resiliencies. Sarah understands that we all go through seasons of life that can be difficult, and sometimes debilitatingly stressful. Hi! My name is Shayne. I’ve been a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) since 2017. I also hold special certifications as an Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and as a Grief Informed Professional (CGIP). I’m most passionate about supporting those who are navigating and processing loss in all of it’s forms – from the death of a loved one to the everyday changes that alter our lives. I love this work because I get to sit alongside people during these times of transition and empower them as they move forward into their next chapter. My therapeutic approach is solution-focused and strengths based, which means we’ll identify tangible steps forward while also shining light on the resilience already within you.
